WHERE I STAND ON THE ISSUES
Dear Fellow Nevadan, we face many unique issues, but none are more important than the challenges that the next legislative season is going to bring forth. We have many needs ranging from Business Development and Diversity to Education.
EDUCATION
The children in the district are struggling to make it through. We have to come together as a State to give our children hope for their education. In the Clark County school District we had an average dropout rate of 6% which equals 18,000 children who decided to give up on school. In 9th grade we had 4.9% drop out; in Grade 10 we had 5.1% drop out; in Grade 11 we had 4.7% percent drop out; in grade 12 we had 9.6% drop out of school.
Our children our giving up, and we need to do something about it. We as a community just can’t sit by watch this happen. I am already on the front line of projects to stem the tide of our children leaving schools. As a single mother of two children, I reared my children while I earned my law degree, and had it not been for great teachers, sharing the role of educating my kids, my job would have been a lot tougher. So I understand education and know that my role as a public servant includes, the need to directly serve our children, as a teacher, and a fellow Nevadan in the fight to save our students.

JOB DEVELOPMENT
I am running to serve the people of State Assembly District 7, to make sure that we, not only have great schools, but to make sure we have jobs for the citizens of this state. I am campaigning for the State Assembly to ensure that the parents of these children have jobs that build confidence, security, and provide good and decent wages for our citizens to take care of their families.
Assembly District 7, has a large number of low to moderate income residents. I want to fight for jobs for our constituents to increase our earning power and ability to take care of our families.
The cuts in state and local budgets have also impacted the constituents of this district at the time when they are in desperate need of help, from their government. Young families must be able to do more than survive financially; they must be allowed to prosper.
Thus, it is critical that there be an effective advocate in Carson City for their interests of Assembly District 7 and the State.

MAP THAT SHOWS INCOME RANGE IN THE DISTRICT
I am campaigning to serve the people of Assembly District 7, because the economic challenges facing the state of Nevada have affected the 7th Assembly District severely. My background as a Professor in Business Law and participation in local economic boards, have provided me the knowledge and background I need to effectively develop solutions for this State.
FORECLOSURES
The people of the district are suffering from a high amount of job losses and cutbacks, as well as predatory lending practices resulting in many foreclosures. The highest rate of foreclosures, have been in District 7. The highest loans and the highest defaults have been in our community. I want to make sure relief is given to this district. I want people to see how these communities have been mapped to show the foreclosure.
I want to make sure that I am at the legislature making sure that we continue to work towards solutions, because after people lose their homes, we have another problem, homelessness. I also want to be the voice that makes sure minority communities are not taking advantage of ever again, by unfair lending practices.
HIGH COST LOANS BY CENSUS TRACKS

ESTIMATED FORECLOSURE RATE BY CENSUS TRACK
CENSUS TRACKS THAT ARE FACING A SIGNIFICANT RISK OF FORECLOSURE
HOMES THAT WERE FINANCED WITH SUBPRIME MORTGAGES
I want to make sure that as a State we continue to work at the legislature to make sure we create laws that prevent this from happening again in our communities. I also want to be the voice that makes sure minority communities are not taking advantage of ever again, by unfair lending practices. It is important that each person, in my District and in this state gets fair and equitable treatment, and that they know they have a voice with integrity in the Legislature. As the daughter of a retired Nevada State legislator I would be honored to be that voice from and for Assembly District 7. |
